From challenging your assumptions, understanding your users and how to course correct when things don't go to plan - a product launch is often just the start!
In this session, Majemu will talk through the journey of the Chaka team as they launch the beta of their newest product. Based on the product launch framework the team adopted during this launch and Majemu will touch on:
- The pro's and cons of using a framework;
- How it helped determine their product market fit;
- How the framework ensured collaboration between different teams; and
- Any additional improvements to the process for future launches
Buy-in is one of the biggest challenges in any organisation, made harder in a large and mature organisation. But how did a team from Africa's Talking get over this hurdle and rolled out 4+ products this year alone.
In this session, Anne will talk through how she created alignment between UX and engineering that allowed for more efficient processes and better product release times. She will touch on:
- How to adopt your communication style depending on your stakeholders;
- How to document new processes of communication;
- The importance of implementation to ensure overall alignment
With the competitive global jobs market, many local talents are lost to international organisations. But with a growing design community, how can you harness homegrown talent and retain them for local organizations?
In this talk, Dumebi will discuss different strategies to empower homegrown design talent. Focusing on the importance of bootcamps and mentoring, he will touch on:
- The strength of the local talent on the technical aspects of design (using tools);
- The lack of understanding of methodologies and design thinking and how you can improve this in your organization through trainings and mentoring; and
- The future of young designers in Africa
Creating user journey maps can be a challenging task for most product teams; made more difficult with the additional variables unique to the health industry and to the users of Wellahealth. So how did the team at Wellahealth develop a successful customer journey map that reduced a typically 4 hour physical experience to a 15 min digital experience?
Focusing on how they built, tested and carried out their user journey to enable the organisation to launch their product. You will walk away learning:
- how to create a user journey map rooted from a physical experience to a successful digital experience;
- what methodology worked best for the team and why; and
- what challenges and learnings came from each iteration of this map

Product teams across the continent often look outwards for influence and inspiration. As tech markets like Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa become more established as places of talent - whether it be design agencies to outsourced developer hubs - this session will discuss an exciting time in the tech industry as we take a look at key strengths and weaknesses across the continent for building great product teams.
Our panelists will explore the current state of the nation; from startups to enterprises, where it’s headed and who are the key players and how we can collectively shape a global offering that is unique to the continent
