Boring Design Stories

It's fun to design the fun stuff. But what about things like complex migrations and ridiculously long settings pages? Join us as we share some real stories about how "boring" things are crucial to successful products -- and really aren't boring at all.
In this talk, we'll discuss:
1. How to breakdown, organise and understand complex or tedious problems
2. How to get stakeholders (and yourself) excited about "boring" work
3. Why investing in "boring" work ultimately leads to a better product

UX Research In Times Of Covid-19

Grab has always encouraged the value that any user research should be in market: travelling to the different markets to learn and experience the users journeys themselves; but with the Covid-19 pandemic this method was out of the question.
In this talk, Nazish and Henny will discuss how Grab pivoted their research methods and behaviours to adapt to the current global situation that still allows them to connect and understand their users.

Human-centered UX Design For Cross-culture Audiences

The world has abundant problems to solve through user experience (UX). Humans are at the center of these problems. If we look deeper, these problems have a lot of things in common (we share human problems and many things are alike), but there are also cultural nuances that make them a bit different from each other. As UX practitioners, we ultimately solve problems for human beings, and although we try to achieve universal solutions, there are values from understanding these differences. By understanding them, we design experiences that better suit their needs, make users happier, and potentially explore bigger opportunities. In this talk, Christine (UX researcher) and Sigit (UX designer) outline the best practices to uncover insights of cross-cultural differences in UX and how to best design within this context.

Adapting Product "Best Practice" That Works for You

People love "best practices" because you can achieve the highest quality outcome with minimal problems. But is there a single best practice in product teams? What works in Spotify, Netflix, Tencent or Baidu is based on their structure and technology stacks. This session will explore how different teams are structured in practice and move the conversation from "best" practice to "great" practices.
Moderated by Catherine Madden, join the conversation, share your insights and probe the speakers on the elements of their talks that left you wanting more.

Community is one part of how UXDX helps teams build better products.

Local events help people learn from peers and build their network. The reports, ebooks and knowledge library turn those conversations into practical ideas teams can apply.
