Metaphor is one of the greatest tools we, as humans, have for understanding. In the face of complexity, or even just novelty, our brains offer us something we know to help us digest something we don’t. From "words are weapons" to "she's a shining star," metaphors infuse our language with vivid imagery, enabling us to grasp abstract concepts effortlessly.
Metaphors can also be powerful design tools. Because, when stripped down, design is a form of communication. The choices we make as designers – about how to enter an experience, how to move through it, what it looks like, what it feels like – all express something to the user, aiding or disrupting their understanding of the task at hand.
When metaphors are used to tie entire experiences together, even complex tasks can become easily digested, relatable, fun, seamless, and intuitive. What if we told you that behind every great design lies a carefully crafted metaphor? Join us to learn the secrets of using experience metaphors to elevate product experiences, differentiate brands, and deliver value to users, customers, and businesses alike.
In this session, you’ll learn:
· The longest running metaphor that made computing available to the masses, and how Apple leveraged a metaphor to make backups intuitive and fun.
· How Dupla Studios created a relational map metaphor for an event production application, and an eye exam metaphor for a service that matches creators to presentation experts.
· A simple guide to applying these concepts in your own work

In this insightful talk, Pablo and Hector will explore the synergistic relationship between iterative design and agile development, emphasizing how these methodologies share a common thread to enhance project outcomes.
Pablo Perez (UX): Pablo will delve into the essence of iterative design, demonstrating its critical role in refining user experiences. He will discuss how this approach facilitates continuous improvement and adaptation, allowing for user feedback to be seamlessly integrated into design enhancements.
Hector Aristy (Development): Hector will highlight the importance of integrating UX planning early in the development cycle. He will share insights into how this early exposure can aid developers in foreseeing technical challenges and crafting preemptive solutions, thereby streamlining the development process. Through his perspective, attendees will learn about the tangible benefits of agile development practices, such as increased flexibility, efficiency, and team collaboration.
The talk aims to bridge the gap between UX and development teams workflow, encouraging a more integrated and collaborative approach to product development. By understanding both perspectives, attendees will gain valuable insights into how iterative design and agile development can work hand in hand to produce superior digital products.

While many companies allocate funds for education and training, they often miss the mark in providing an effective learning environment. The key? Collaborative learning.
ALTE is a structured framework designed for teams to embark on this journey together. Using four distinct phases, ALTE allows participants to select their learning paths thoughtfully. The process encourages mutual growth, facilitated through tailored activities that foster knowledge exchange and collaboration.
As a culmination of this experience, ALTE hosts a recognition ceremony to acknowledge and celebrate individual and collective progress. The best part? All of this builds a better team at no additional costs.
