UX is Always Political

Every button placement, every default setting, every so-called “intuitive” design choice, none of it is neutral. UX isn’t just about usability; it’s about power. Who gets to decide what’s easy to use? Whose needs are prioritized? And who gets left behind?
In this eye-opening talk, we’ll uncover the hidden power struggles baked into everyday design decisions, from bias in AI interfaces to dark patterns that manipulate users. Through real-world examples, we’ll explore how UX can empower or exclude, liberate or control. Whether you’re a designer, developer, or decision-maker, you’ll walk away with a new perspective on your role in shaping a more ethical, inclusive digital world.
UX shapes society, let’s make sure it’s shaping a better one

Today I Experienced Something I Hope to Understand in a Few Days

In this talk, Caroline will reflect on the analogue aspects of being human in a tech-driven world. She will share examples from her own work, analogous trends, and point towards a positive future for design.
The title derives from a quote by Danish filmmaker Jørgen Leth in his film “The Perfect Human” from 1968. Similar to Descartes’ quote “Cogito, ergo sum”; I think, therefore I am, the quote underlines a human quality that differentiates us from animals and machines.

Community is one part of how UXDX helps teams build better products.

Local events help people learn from peers and build their network. The reports, ebooks and knowledge library turn those conversations into practical ideas teams can apply.
