Embedding Accessibility in your Digital Style Guide
Accessible design begins in your style guide, which is the foundation of a design system. It should have the greatest coverage it can with respect to functional requirements, non-functional requirements, usability heuristics, and accessibility requirements. But, how and where do you implement accessibility considerations in a digital style guide? In this in-depth training, Karen will take you through practical ways to build—or enhance—a digital style guide so it supports inclusive experiences.
Each participant will work in their preferred program like Sketch, Figma, Adobe XD, or other (attendee’s choice), in creating their own set of accessible buttons, links, and form controls, using their own branding. Individuals can share struggles and successes with the group. The goal is for all attendees to leave with their own set of accessible buttons, links, and form controls, to help inform the evolution of their digital style guides and will walk away with a better understanding of:
- How granular design choices impact the accessibility of your entire design system, and why creating a stronger design foundation now saves time and money in the long run
- The key accessibility criteria designers own and how to embed them in your style guide
- Modifications for common UI elements, feasible even for legacy brand style guides
