Designing A Successful 2 Hour Design Sprint

Most organisations have based their have based their design thinking process from Stanford's school or using Google and Jake Knapp’s 5-Day process from the book “Sprint: How to Solve Big Problems and Test New Ideas in Just Five Days”.
However, 5-day sprints have its challenges ranging from stakeholder approval, high costs, loss of productive time and remote work team collaboration. The Product & UX team from TreviPay created a hybrid methodology and condensed this process to 2 hours which has allowed for more positive outcomes including better stakeholder support, focused problem statements, and ability to conduct multiple design sprints in a week. In this session, Teresa will talk through:

  • How the team at TreviPay determined that 2 hours is the optimal length for a remote Design Sprint;
  • How to train your full product team to run design sprints;
  • The tools and step-by-step guide on building your own 2 hour design sprint; and
  • Future process improvements Teresa can foresee
Create Inclusive, Accessible Products

Don't exclude over 20% of your audience. Instead, learn how to make your designs inclusive. As designers, we have a mental model about how design is done. It's time to shift, expand that model and shift how you approach design and accessibility overall.
In this talk, Lori will touch on:

  • 4 things you can do as a designer to make accessible and inclusive designs,
  • Do's and dont's with examples of how to communicate accessible designs to the development team,
  • Tips for making accessibility and inclusion an integrated part of your design mental model.
Building A Conscious UX Team For Your Organisation

Biased is inherent and as with designs UX research can also fall into this corner. Although data driven, how it is interpreted and presented is where bias usually appears. So how can you avoid this quandary and create a culture of conscious researchers?

In this session, Carmen & Mackenzie will talk through their journey as they build an inclusive and conscious UX team at Handshake. From their past experiences, they will touch on:
- Techniques on how to mitigate bias in your research data;
- How to present conscious research readouts to a room of your stakeholders; and
- Their best practices on how to build a UX team from scratch that is inclusive, conscious and effective

How to Change a Tire on a Moving Car

With his experience in multiple domains and companies, Scott has seen businesses overextend the tread life of their products and eventually have to deal with the risk of a blowout or serious accident from feature bloat, maintenance pruning, and other reactionary cultural phenomena - but no matter the cause they eventually lead to the same unfortunate outcome.
In this session, Scott will share an alternative method to tackle and improve your product user experience. He will touch on:

  • how to plan for landscapes and not roadmaps;
  • what makes a successful crew;
  • the importance of one lug nut at a time.

The goal of the session is to change the tire without stopping the car. That means we may have to loosen a lug nut here and there, get the tools in place, and be prepared to take off a lug nut until we get to a point for that quick tire swap.
