Most design systems improve UI consistency. Moldova’s national design system changed the law. Backed by a new legal framework, design became a formal requirement in the country’s digital transformation plan. In this talk, Ramona Ziemann shares how that shift turned a Figma library into a national standard and why it gives designers a real seat at the table in how government services are built.

Outcome:

  • How a national design system can reset the rules for how public digital services get built
  • Ways to bring Design into early scoping
  • How shared standards subtly shift the collaboration between institutions, vendors, designers, and developers
  • Ideas for nudging your own organisation in a similar direction, even if you don’t have legislation on your side
